Paul the Octopus picks Germany over Uruguay in Saturday’s 3rd place soccer playoff

Paul, the octopus has picked Germany over Uruguay as Saturdays winner in the Football World Cup 2010 3rd place playoff. The Oracle of Oberhausen, an 8-tentacled cephalopod named Paul, is picking World Cup winners by choosing his meals from boxes with national flags on them. The octopus favors Germany over Uruguay this Saturday.
CNN reports, “Paul previously predicted the winners of all of Germany’s World Cup matches, creating a huge amount of interest around the world. But this is the first time he has had to choose between two non-German teams.”
The seer sucker has also had queries regarding the Greek financial crisis, and the BP oil leak. His current divinations are limited to soccer wins and mussel rewards.
AsiaOne has news from a different source, “Move over Paul the octopus, Singapore has its own football tipster in the form of a parakeet called Mani. The seven-year-old bird from Malaysia has become a national sensation, having predicted that Holland, Uruguay, Germany and Spain would make it into the semi-finals and that Spain would beat Germany. Mani has picked the Netherlands to win the championship match and his owner, fortune teller Munniyappan, has full confidence in the feathered pundit.”
Yahoo Sports says, “Handlers of the 2 1/2 -year-old floppy octopus—a resident of the Oberhausen Sea Life aquarium—usually have him make predictions only for games in which Germany plays. But because of Paul’s recent worldwide fame and demand for his pick for the final, they made an exception.”
