It is yet another in the several movies that have been made on the Mahatma Gandhi’s life but the ‘Road to Sangam’, slated for release in October this year seems to generate interest and maybe some controversy also.
“The Road to Sangam,” received standing ovations at the Cannes Film Festival and the just concluded Ahmedabad Film Festival for its moving depiction about an ordinary Muslim mechanic’s internal tussle between truth and adherence to diktats of his community’s leaders.
The debut directorial venture of Amit Rai also has Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson, Tushar Gandhi, playing himself. It is set to be screened in theatres on October 2,Gandhi Jayanti.
It’s a simple story of a God fearing, devout Muslim mechanic named Hashmat Ullah (Paresh Rawal) who has been entrusted the job of repairing an old V8 ford engine, not knowing the historic significance that it once carried the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi which were immersed in the holy river ‘Sangam’. He is caught in a complex situation after a powerful bomb explosion rocks his town leading to the arrest of innocent Muslim youths of his locality. A strike to work is called by the prominent Leaders played by Om Puri and Pavan Mallhotra, of his community to protest against the unjust treatment meted out to those arrested youths by the police. Will he support the protest and abandon the repair of the engine or go against the wishes of his community. Thus begins his journey. A journey of Gandhian values and principles. A journey of patriotism. A journey called “Road To Sangam”.
One of Bollywood’s most awaited movie, Ishqiya hit the screens today, directed by Abhishek Chaubhey Ishqiya is a beautiful story involving love triangle, drama and revenge. The movie has been produced by Vishal Bharadwaj and Raman Maroo. Gulzar has taken care of the lyrics and cinematography is by Mohana Krishna.
Explosively raw, ribald, gritty, grimy, and, most of all, real Ishqiya is a story of two thieves, Khalujan, played by Naseeruddin Shah and Babban (Arshad Warsi) are on a run from their boss, Mustaq (Salim Shahid) Both Khalujan and Babban seek refuge with an old friend and instead meet his widow, Krishna played by Vidya Balan. As both the duo plan to escape, the time they spent with Krishna draws them close to her. Thereafter begins a love triangle, as Khalujaan falls for Krishna though the testosterone driven Babban suspects the widow but not without a desire to bed her.Krishna uses her feminine charm to manipulate the shabby thieves into plotting a kidnapping. Before they could even realize, the uncle-nephew duo is sucked into an inescapable quicksand of love, lies and deception. What follows is an incendiary climax, preceded with an unexpected twist in the tale.
Naseeruddin plays a romantic role and has perfromed brilliantly. Arshad Warsi will be seen in a completly different role from his performance in Munnabhais. Vidya Balan surprises everyone with a sparkling performance.
Over all a wonderful must watch movie with a riveting plot, great performance and an absorbing story.

Releasing today, Tamizh Padam is a comedy movie which again shifts towards emotional attyachaar at end for love. This movie is a spoof on commercial mass movies that follow the same formula. Hero will fall in love with a rich girl, however she is out of reach of him and definitely gets her and then fights with her father who is a damn politician for the sake of his ethics.
The movie is produced by Cloud Nine Movies, a film by ‘Mirchi’ Siva, the RJ turned actor. Media partnered by IndiaGlitz, the movie is said to be a satire on so called commercial movies of Tamil cinema.
With mostly new faces in lead roles, ‘Tamil Padam’ would be on the lines of Hindi hit ‘Om Shanti Om’, according to sources. Proving this, newspaper advertisements of the film took a comical dig at some of the clichés that a typical Tamil cinema hero would follow.
Ishqiya movie is produced by Vishal Bharadwaj in association with Shemaroo Entertainment, directed by debut director Abhishek Chaubey and starring Vidya Balan, Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi
Vidya is playing very distinct role and you will see her speaking UP Hindi which is common factor Vishal Bharadwaj’s movies. She also has a very rare and very different look in the movie.
